Jackson Heights Community to Honor Beloved Pets at Special Day of the Dead Celebration

Dalila’s Pet Grooming to host a community memorial honoring the lives and memories of pets who have passed away

JACKSON HEIGHTS, QUEENS — September 18, 2026

Dalila’s Pet Grooming will host a special Day of the Dead celebration dedicated to beloved pets on Tuesday, October 27, at 12:00 PM, bringing members of the Jackson Heights community together to remember, honor, and celebrate the lives of their cherished animal companions.

The celebration will take place at Dalila’s Pet Grooming, 90-12 37th Ave., Jackson Heights, NY 11372, where a special memorial altar—or ofrenda—will be created in honor of pets who have passed away.

The community is invited to participate by bringing photographs of their deceased pets to place on the altar. Flowers, candles, photographs, and meaningful keepsakes will help create a space where families can share memories and celebrate the lasting bond they had with their companions.

A Celebration of the Lives They Left Behind

The event is inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos, in which families create ofrendas to remember loved ones who have passed away. This celebration adapts that tradition to recognize the special place pets hold within families.

“Our pets are family. They give us unconditional love, companionship, and memories that stay with us forever,” said Miguel Rodriguez, pet fashion designer and organizer of the event. “We want to create a place where our community can come together—not only to mourn their loss, but also to celebrate the beautiful lives they shared with us.”

The event will also include a symbolic tribute to beloved pets of public figures, recognizing the impact these animals had on the lives of their families and admirers.

Among those being remembered are:

• Sunny, the Portuguese Water Dog who was part of the Obama family and passed away in September 2026. The Obama Foundation confirmed her death on September 15.
• Pharaoh, the Siberian Husky who was the longtime companion of WWE star Cody Rhodes and whose death Rhodes announced in September 2026.
• Tucker Budzyn, the beloved Golden Retriever and internet personality who passed away in September 2026 after being diagnosed with lymphoma.
• Sammy, beloved dog of Justin Bieber
• Antuan, beloved dog of Alejandro Fernández
• Tinkerbell, beloved pet of Paris Hilton
• Kilate, beloved dog of Maluma
• Enzo, beloved dog of J Balvin
• Mozart, beloved dog of Salma Hayek

The tribute is intended as a symbolic community memorial and is not presented as an official event hosted or endorsed by the families or representatives of these public figures.

An Invitation to the Community

Families throughout Jackson Heights and surrounding neighborhoods are encouraged to attend and bring a photograph of a beloved pet they have lost.

The gathering will provide an opportunity for people to share memories, celebrate the joy their pets brought into their lives, and recognize the lasting impact of the human-animal bond.

The event will be open to community members and members of the media.
